Charles H. Majors

Charles H. Majors joined American National in 1993 as President of both the bank and the holding company. Shortly thereafter, in 1994, his role expanded to include the responsibilities of Chief Executive Officer of both entities. As of January 1, 2013, he is Chairman of the holding company and Chairman of the Bank. Prior to joining American National, Majors was President and Partner of Clement & Wheatley, one of the largest law firms in south central Virginia. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Auburn University and his law degree from the University of Virginia. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in humanities from Averett University.  Active in many professional and civic organizations, he served as the 2010-2011 Chairman of the Virginia Bankers Association. Currently the Vice-Chairman of Danville Regional Foundation, he is a past Chairman of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership Board of Directors, the Danville Public School Board, and the Averett University Board of Trustees. Other civic affiliations include serving as an officer or director of the following: the Womack Foundation, the United Way, the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce, Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, the Danville Rotary Club and the Future of the Piedmont Foundation.


Jeffrey V. Haley

Jeffrey V. Haley was named President of American National Bank and Trust Company, as well as the Executive Vice President of American National Bankshares, Inc., in June 2010. On January 1, 2012, he was named Chief Executive Officer of American National Bank and Trust Company and President of its holding company, American National Bankshares, Inc.  As of January 1, 2013, he is President and Chief Executive Officer of both the bank and the holding company.  Prior to these positions, Jeff was Senior Vice President of the bank as well as President of Trust and Financial Services since July 2008. He also spent time as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the bank as of November 2005. He is a graduate of James Madison University and the North Carolina School of Executive Bank Management. Active in many professional and civic organizations, he currently serves on the City of Danville Employeesí Retirement System Board of Trustees, the Board of Bankers Insurance, the Board of the Institute of Advanced Learning and Research and the Danville Rotary Club. He is also an executive board member and Immediate Past Chairman of Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, he serves as Treasurer of the Future of the Piedmont Foundation.

Charles T. Canaday, Jr. joined American National in 2010 through the bankís acquisition of MidCarolina Bank. Charles formerly served as President and Chief Executive Officer of MidCarolina Bank and MidCarolina Financial Corporation in Burlington, North Carolina. Prior to MidCarolina, Charles worked in roles of increasing responsibility for BB&T, First South Bank and Centura Bank. He is a graduate of Coastal Carolina University where he earned his degree in business administration. His civic affiliations include serving on the Board of Directors for the Salvation Army, the Boys & Girls Club of Alamance County, the Alamance County Area Chamber of Commerce, Alamance County YMCA, and Alamance Community College Foundation and the Open Door Clinic.


R. Helm Dobbins

R. Helm Dobbins joined American National in 2003 to serve as Chief Credit Officer. With more than 30 years of lending and credit experience, Helm worked for Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh and J.P. Morgan in New York. He later worked for Liberty National Bancshares in Kentucky and Citizens Bancshares in Missouri before coming to American National. He earned his masterís in business administration from the Tuck School at Dartmouth College and a bachelorís of science, with honors, from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. He has been involved in a number of civic and volunteer activities, including service on the Boards of Danville Public Schools, the Danville Museum of History and Fine Arts, the Danville Regional Airport Commission, where he served two terms as Chairman, the Lead Virginia Board of Trustees, Co-chairman of the UVA Families Board and Chairman of the Southern Virginia Regional Board of the Sorensen Institute for Politics at UVA.


S. Cabell Dudley, Jr.

S. Cabell Dudley, Jr., joined American National in 2006 as head of Commercial Lending for Lynchburg. In 2008, he assumed the role of Chief Lending Officer, and in 2010, he moved into his present position. Cabell started his banking career with Fidelity National Bank, which later became Central Fidelity Bank and then Wachovia Bank. He is a graduate of Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University and the National Commercial Lending School. He is also a graduate of Roanoke College, where he earned his bachelorís in economics. He has served as an officer and board member of numerous civic and social organizations, including the Longwood University Foundation, the Lynchburg Museum System, Meals on Wheels, the Heart Association, the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce and Crisis Line of Central Virginia.


Dabney T. P. Gilliam, Jr.

Dabney (Dexter) T.P. Gilliam, Jr., joined American National in 2000 and was named Senior Loan Officer in 2001. Since that time, he has served as Chief Banking Officer, Senior Vice President-Commercial Banking and was named Chief Administrative Officer in 2008. He has 29 years of banking experience in the Danville, Pittsylvania County and Halifax County markets. Prior to joining American National, he was Regional Commercial Manager for Central Fidelity and Regional Executive for Southside Virginia for One Valley Bank. A retired Colonel with the Virginia Army National Guard, he has a bachelor of science degree from Virginia Military Institute and is a graduate of the Virginia Bankers Association School of Bank Management. Dexterís civic affiliations include service on the Board of Trustees for the Halifax Regional Health System for which he is the Chair of the Planning and Development Committee. He also serves on the Boardís Audit and Executive Committees. Dexter is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Halifax County Service Authority as well.


William W. Traynham, Jr.

William W. Traynham, Jr., joined the company in 2009 as the Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Secretary of American National Bankshares, Inc. Prior to joining American National, he worked for the following financial institutions in positions of increasing leadership responsibility: Community Bankshares, Inc.; Community Resource Bank; Orangeburg National Association; Sumter National Bank; Florence National Bank; and, Bank of Ridgeway. He is an alumnus of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, where he earned a bachelorís in management science and accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a graduate of the School of Banking of the South.

 

H. Gregg Strader

Strader has more than 30 years of experience in the banking industry. An alumnus of Davidson College in Davidson, N.C., he has worked with various financial institutions, including Wachovia Corporation/First Union for 23 years. Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President & Chief Credit Officer for IBERIABANK Corporation in New Orleans, La. His expertise ranges from management of lending, credit due diligence and risk management to mergers and integrations and strategic leadership. Having previously served on the board of the YMCA of Greensboro and as a trustee for Greensboro Day School, he currently volunteers as a merit badge counselor for Boy Scouts of America. Strader was named Chief Banking Officer on January 1, 2014.
