Setting up and using Apple Pay is easy:

Step 1 – For iPhone users, launch the Wallet app (formerly Passbook®) and tap the plus sign.

For iPad users, launch the Settings app, tap “Wallet & Apple Pay,” then tap “Add Credit or Debit Card.”

For Apple Watch users, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap “Wallet & Apple Pay,” then tap “Add Credit or Debit Card.”

Step 2 – Follow the on-screen prompts to complete your card set-up. To avoid Apple Pay enrollment issues, make sure the personal information (name, physical address, etc.) in your iTunes account matches the information that American National has on file.

Note:  For iPhone devices, if you have not done so already, you will be prompted to set up your Touch ID and Passcode. Apple Pay will only work when these features are enabled.

Step 3 – Look for the Apple Pay symbol and pay for purchases by holding your iPhone or Apple Watch near the merchant’s card reader. Authorize payment on your iPhone by using your finger on Touch ID™. With Apple Watch, double click the side button.

*American National’s debit cards for personal banking checking accounts are eligible for Apple Pay. Business banking debit cards are not eligible at this time.

A Safe, Private Way to Pay

Apple Pay is arguably as safe, if not safer, than using your physical debit or credit card because you are not sharing your actual account number and your card numbers are not stored on your device. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element, a dedicated chip in iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. When you make a purchase, the Device Account Number, along with a transaction-specific dynamic security code, is used to process your payment. Your actual credit or debit card numbers are never shared by Apple with merchants or transmitted with payment.

Access All Your Cards in a Touch

While we hope your American National debit card is your go-to payment method, you can store and access multiple debit and credit cards within your Apple Pay wallet.
