American National Honors Danville Students for Completing Bank-Sponsored EverFi Financial Literacy Program
DANVILLE, VA – Students at George Washington High School received certification in financial literacy after completing the My Money, My FutureSM Financial Literacy Program, made possible with the financial support of local sponsor American National Bank and Trust Company. The event honoring the students’ achievements was held on Monday, April 23, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. in the George Washington High School Library.
George Washington High School teamed with American National Bank and Trust Company to incorporate the EverFi Financial Literacy E-Learning Platform into students’ existing curricula. This online program uses the latest in new media technologies – adaptive-pathing, 3-D gaming, social networking, online animations, video and messaging tools to bring complex financial concepts to life. Using the EverFi platform, George Washington High School students have become certified in more than 600 topics in personal finance, such as budgeting, saving, using credit cards wisely and financing higher education.
“Financial literacy is a life skill that many of today's students neither appreciate nor understand,” said Dr. Sue Davis, Superintendent of Danville Public Schools. “When business leaders provide ‘real-world’ experiences, activities and expertise as evidenced by this program, students begin to realize the importance of knowledge and finances. We appreciate the support of the Danville business community.”
“As a community bank with a firm commitment to education and 21st century technology, partnering with EverFi was a natural fit,” said Charles H. Majors, Chairman, American National Bank and Trust Company. “We’re excited to hold our first certification ceremony with George Washington High School, and we are grateful to Dr. Davis and to the teachers, faculty and administration for allowing us to fund this virtual experience for the students.”
Students graduating from the My Money, My FutureSM Financial Literacy Program will have the knowledge to help them make the right decisions when it comes to personal financial management. By participating in this program, George Washington High School is taking the lead on a statewide financial literacy initiative powered by EverFi. The partnership represents an innovative private-sector solution to our education system – implementing programs that provide students with the critical life skills to help them succeed – at no cost to the taxpayer. The EverFi program is now in more than 3,000 high schools across the United States.
